CSTV was launched in 1999. On Oct. 1st, 2001. We claimed CSTV (WOCK-TV 13) had become the first independent channel in the U.S. airing 24-hour Chinese programs with both English and Chinese languages. The estimated audience rating is above 85% of the total Chinese population in the greater Chicago area. The coverage area also includes some portions of Detroit, Michigan; Greenbay, Wisconsin; Missouri and Indiana. CSTV had a vast variety of programs, including news, cultural showcases, entertainment, sports coverage, and movies.
During December 2003, CSTV moved to WFBT-TV Channel 23, for six hours daily, to provide a better coverage of the greater Chicagoland area and is accessible by cable viewers. Starting on January 1, 2005 CSTV moved to WFBT-TV Channel 48, due to Channel 23’s decision to be a pure English channel. CSTV continues to broadcast some English programs at Channel 23 during the weekends. Comcast started carrying WFBT Channel 48 in September, 2005. It is on Digital Channel 248 in the city of Chicago and its suburbs.
CSTV has a potential audience of 6,400,000 on Channel 23 and 7,500,000 on Channel 48, and is also carried on WFBN Channel 33 in Rockford, IL. To enrich the programming, CSTV is the ONLY TV station in the United States that is holding the broadcasting privileges from China's largest television network, China Central TV – CCTV’s international channel. Because of the outstanding programming and the honest coverage of both China and the United States, CSTV has earned support from both the American and Chinese government as well as the support from business corporations in both countries.
